Staff Spotlight: Wally Lake

Bio: Wally Lake is a high school graduate from Bronson High School. He embarked on his professional journey with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1992. In 1999, an opportunity arose for him to step into the role of Fleet Manager for Alachua County Sheriff’s Office at their newly constructed facility, overseeing a fleet of over 400 vehicles and equipment. In 2005, he transitioned to the University of Florida at IFAS Facilities Planning & Operations, dedicating nearly 14 years to his tenure there. In 2018, Wally assumed the position of Fleet and Asset Manager for the University of Florida Police Department until May 2021, during which he received the Support Person of the Year award. Following this, he was appointed as the Maintenance Superintendent for Facilities Services Motor Pool, an endeavor he finds immensely rewarding. 

What does your role entail?

“As the Superintendent I oversee the daily operations of the Motor Pool and work with the staff to provide the best service and cost savings to our customers within the University.”

What is your favorite part about working at UF?

“I have enjoyed working at UF for almost 20 years. My family has deep roots here at UF with my Father, Mother, Wife, Brother, Sister in Law and now Niece all being employed or retired from UF.”

“In my off time, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family.”
