Bio: Monica is the proud mother of two sons who are employees of UF Shands Health and a dog owner of two small fur babies. Originally from Daytona Beach, FL, she moved to Alachua County, FL at age 14. She graduated from H.H.S and then returned to Daytona Beach where she worked at Bethune Cookman University. She started as a Custodian at Bethune Cookman University and was soon promoted to Office Manager, Assistant Director, and ultimately the Director of Custodial Services. In 2019, Monica returned to Alachua County and started her career at the University of Florida with Building Services as a Lead Worker and supervisor, and currently serves as a Superintendent.

What’s an identity you’re proud to share?

“I love my role at UF and I have had the honor to meet so many great employees, past and present, who work for Building Services. I respect them and have gained so much knowledge from them. I will always cherish these relationships.”

What does your role entail?

“My role entails managing a team of supervisors, custodians and/or housekeepers.  Also, planning, directing, coordinating and supervising custodial and floor care operations, utilizing my familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.  I use my experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. I am a leader and I direct the work of others, spending the majority of my work time on supervisory/managerial duties.  This role allows me to exercise a high degree of creativity and latitude.”

What is your favorite part about working at UF?

“Customer Service. I love providing excellent customer service to my employees, students, faculty, and staff at the University of Florida by exceeding expectations, going the extra mile, and communicating well.”

“I love traveling, freshwater fishing, and taking care of my fur babies.”
