SBSD Introduces Landscape Services Program for Emerging Small Businesses
The University of Florida’s Department of Small Business & Supplier Diversity (SBSD) has announced the introduction of its Landscape Services Program for emerging small businesses in the community. The new program is a collaborative effort between SBSD and Facilities Services (Grounds).
The UF Emerging Small Business Program was launched in 2022 with the goal of increasing the pool of qualified businesses seeking opportunities with the University of Florida. Until now, the program only included opportunities for maintenance and construction-related services. The addition of the Landscape Services Program is designed to further increase opportunities for small and diverse businesses while beautifying UF’s campus.
Participants will receive a year of direct guidance and coaching from program administrators while being provided the opportunity to participate in services/projects up to $30,000.
“This program is a great opportunity for our local, small business owners to work with the institution,” said Dwan Courtney, Director of UF Small Business and Supplier Diversity. “Through guidance and hands on training, our goal at UF is to promote small business success.”
To be considered eligible for the program, businesses must provide services in landscape and related services such as landscape maintenance, landscape installation, irrigation repair, hardscape, and tree work. The firm or owner must have at least two years of residential and/or commercial experience. Eligible businesses must not exceed 15 permanent employees or have a net worth of over $1 million. Businesses accepted into the program will be required to attend workshops to understand how to navigate UF’s processes.
