Staff Spotlight: Dwan Courtney

Director

Bio: I’ve been with Small Business Relations since 2016, starting as the Marketing & Communications Specialist. Having worked in the department until May 2020, I left for a short period to coordinate the City of Gainesville’s Small Business Program. In January 2021, I returned as the Director of Small Business Relations. I like to say that I went on a short vacation before returning back home to the Gator Nation.

What is an identity you’re proud to share?

“I’m proud that I am an intrinsically motivated individual. So, while external factors may influence me, I know that I can thrive with a genuine interest in being successful when working on things personally and professionally.”

What does your role entail?

“It involves identifying and creating partnerships with various UF units and agencies to build collaborative support for small business success at UF. Additionally, being intentional about programming and outreach with the goal of helping emerging businesses get access to information, thus taking advantage of various UF opportunities.”

What is your favorite part about working at UF?

“I love working with so many talented individuals.”

“I love dancing and I’ve been a personal trainer for 12+ years. Health is wealth!”
