Bio: Chris Whitehurst joined the University of Florida in 2007 and holds an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Florida, earned in the 90s. While residing in the Tampa Bay area, he pursued and obtained his MBA from the University of Tampa with a concentration in Controllership.

Throughout his 17-year tenure with UF, Chris has been a vital asset to the Facilities Services department, where he oversees the financial well-being of the $120 million annual Auxiliary business, encompassing WCTF and Utilities for the campus. In 2019, he took on the additional responsibility of managing the $100 million annual Facilities Services Support Budget program. This program includes oversight of 13 million gross square feet of building space and 1200 acres of manicured space.

Chris has played a key role in providing substantial financial support to numerous large initiatives for the campus, showcasing his dedication and expertise in managing financial operations.

Chris takes pride in embodying honesty and integrity, values that contribute to nurturing interpersonal connections across campus and with all UF stakeholders he encounters.

WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE ENTAIL?

Chris plays a crucial role in developing utility rates and building budgets to uphold reliable and safe services, managing nearly a billion dollars in deferred maintenance for utilities. He evaluates the return on investment (ROI) and potential cost savings of energy initiatives, collaborating with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) initiated by the university. Working closely with Energy Engineers and the Sustainability Office, Chris monitors energy consumption across buildings and the main campus.

Additionally, Chris has been actively involved in the initiative of Renewable Energy Credits for the campus. He diligently benchmarks Facilities Services units’ services against over 400 universities in the United States, ensuring cost-effectiveness and aligning service quality with industry standards. Chris also compares utility rates with those of Florida cities and the utility companies serving Florida, ensuring alignment with regional standards.

Chris enjoys the meaningful connections he forms with the diverse individuals he interacts with at UF. His favorite aspect of working for the university is the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of UF students, including his son who has been accepted. As a proud UF alumnus, Chris takes pride in delivering exceptional services to support the growth and development of the next generation of leaders at this esteemed Top 5 university.

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU:

Chris has embarked on a new venture this spring, cultivating sunflowers and raising bees to craft his own Sunflower Butter and Honey.
