Staff Spotlight: Emily Young
Records Manager
Bio: Originally from Wisconsin, I moved to Gainesville after my dad retired from a long career in law enforcement. Growing up in a law enforcement family gave me a deep appreciation for public service and the important role that safety professionals play in their communities.
I began my career with UFPD as a Community Services Assistant, where I would support the officers with community engagement events, managing shared calendars and coordinating reservations for the Community Services Classroom. I created the graphics that you would see on our social media pages, among other projects. I also assisted with the supervision of GEMRU, helping with overseeing their medical supply inventory and providing support to the members of the unit, who dubbed me their “GEMRU Mom”.
I transitioned to the role of Records Manager just under a year ago, and I look forward to continuing to grow and make an impact in this position.
What is an identity you’re proud to share?
“I am a mom to two amazing kids, a girl and a boy. They are truly the light of my life and as much as they can be on my last nerve, I could not imagine having it any other way.”
What does your role entail?
As Records Manager, I oversee the management, accuracy and integrity of police records, ensuring compliance with state regulations while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism. I work closely with officers, staff and campus partners to streamline processes, support public records requests and ensure critical information is organized and accessible.
What is your favorite part about working at UF?
“What I enjoy most about working at UF is being part of a team that is deeply committed to service and professionalism. Even though much of my work happens behind the scenes, I know it directly supports campus safety and accountability.”
Fun fact about you:
“UF is truly a family affair in my household—my husband works for the university as well. When we’re not on campus, you can usually find me tending to my ever-growing collection of houseplants and convincing myself that I definitely have room for just one more.”
